My love of photography started when I was about 7 and my parents bought me my first camera, it had a 4-cube flash and roll of film, I absolutely loved it. At the time my parents had a boat on the Grand Union Canal, and we spent every weekend and school holidays there travelling up and down. I was in my element taking photos and this started my love of water, wildlife and scenery. I took it everywhere including family gatherings, but my love was for outdoors. My mum used to moan about the number of rolls of films she had to buy and get processed!Over the years and growing up I eventually bought my first digital camera with a huge size memory card and loved I could just shoot away. I still have these; I then purchased a smaller compact camera and memory card as obviously technology changes.
Life and family got in the way but still took photos of family and then grandchildren…my kids used to say…oh mum and her camera lol.
About 10 years ago my husband bought me my first DSLR camera, it was a Canon 1200D, well I thought it was the bees knees, I absolutely fell in love but still didn’t get out much due to work etc.
We moved to Wales in 2018 and I was in love…all this scenery – mountains, sheep, waterfalls, it is so beautiful here. Sadly, due to certain medical conditions my health deteriorated, and I am partially in a wheelchair, but this hasn’t stopped me. It is difficult to go to some places, but plenty I can.
I have even been using my photos for my art, I do a lot of crafts and card making and have been using my scenery photos for my pastel chalk paintings, and watercolour for my flowers.
I joined the Aberystwyth Camera Club late 2022 and thanks to recommendations have found plenty of places to go. I love the club, everyone is so kind and helpful, I have learnt a lot and have got out of auto mode! I am now secretary for the club and enjoy our weekly meetings.
